Cardiographer

An ECG is only as good as the tech who runs it, and that's you β€” placing the leads, capturing the trace, and flagging what looks off for the cardiologist. Turning a heartbeat into a readable trace.

What it's like

What it's like to be a Cardiographer

The day moves patient to patient β€” placing leads precisely, running ECGs or stress tests, watching the tracing, and flagging anything that looks off for the physician. You meet a lot of nervous people briefly, and a sloppy lead placement can muddy the whole reading. Much of the craft is getting a clean trace from a restless or anxious patient.

A hospital means variety and sometimes urgent, sick patients; an outpatient clinic runs steadier and scheduled. The work tends to be repetitive, the volume can be high, and you're expected to recognize a dangerous rhythm fast even though you record findings rather than diagnose them. Hours and acuity shift sharply by setting.

It tends to fit the calm and precise β€” people who can reassure an anxious patient and still nail the technical detail. If you want deep patient relationships or lots of variety, the brief, repetitive encounters may not satisfy. But if being the reliable first read on someone's heart matters to you, the role is hands-on and a solid foothold in cardiac care.
