What it's like

What it's like to be a Safety Consultant

Site visits, audits, and reports β€” you assess workplaces, identify hazards, and recommend controls, plus training and compliance help, advising rather than enforcing. Spotting the risk others have normalized is the craft, and much of the value is harm prevented β€” incidents that never happen because you flagged the cause.

The harder part is advising, not commanding β€” you recommend, and the client decides whether to act. Regulations are dense and shifting, you're sometimes the unwelcome messenger, and proving the value of prevention is a constant challenge. Industries and risks vary widely from job to job.

It tends to fit someone observant, persuasive, and patient with slow change. If you want authority or quick wins, the advisory role can frustrate. But if there's meaning in keeping people from getting hurt β€” and being the outside voice that sees clearly β€” the work tends to feel worthwhile.
