Delegate

The role's rhythm tends to depend significantly on the body to which you serve and its session calendar — some delegates work essentially full-time legislative jobs; others serve part-time on specific decision cycles (party conventions, tribal council quarterly meetings, special districts). You'll often combine substantive work on the body with constituent communications. Substantive outcomes, constituent representation, and political viability shape the visible measures.

The harder part is often the legitimacy-and-mandate work — delegates derive authority from the constituency that elected them, and maintaining that mandate (through communication, accountability, and visible service) is part of the role beyond the substantive work. Variance is wide: U.S. House non-voting delegates (DC, territories), party-convention delegates, tribal-council delegates, and special-district delegates all run with distinct frameworks.

The role tends to fit folks who carry community presence, political instincts, and the appetite for deliberative work in formal settings. Prior elected or party experience often anchors the path. The trade-off is the cyclical-mandate dimension that requires ongoing constituent attention to maintain the seat.
