Convention Services Manager (CSM)

The convention's planner becomes your primary working relationship for the duration of the event — pre-event calls, site visits, BEO reviews, and the on-site execution week. You're often the operational hub across departments for that group. Convention satisfaction and rebooking anchor the visible measures.

What gets uncomfortable is balancing competing groups in the same building — three conventions in the building at once, each with priority requests for the same banquet kitchen. Variance across employers is sharp: major convention hotels have layered CSM teams covering segments of the property; smaller hotels or venues consolidate CSM duties with event coordination.

Folks who do well here often hold service standards under live event pressure — the work rewards diplomacy with planners and operational fluency across departments. The trade-off is the weekend-and-evening event calendar that shapes the year. CMP and hospitality credentials anchor advancement; many CSMs become directors of event services at major properties.
