Designing the cloud infrastructure that entire organizations run on β making the architectural decisions that affect cost, performance, security, and scalability for years.
As a Senior Cloud Architect, you design the overall cloud infrastructure strategy and architecture for an organization. You make high-level decisions about cloud platform selection, multi-cloud strategy, network architecture, security design, cost optimization, and migration approach. Your architecture decisions affect everything from application performance to monthly cloud spend.
Your day involves reviewing and designing cloud architectures, evaluating new cloud services, conducting architecture reviews, working with engineering teams on implementation approaches, and presenting cloud strategy to leadership. You're thinking at the systems level β not just how individual services work, but how they interact, fail, scale, and cost at the organizational level.
The senior challenge is balancing competing architectural concerns. The most performant architecture may be the most expensive. The most secure may be the least developer-friendly. Multi-cloud adds resilience but complexity. Every decision involves tradeoffs, and your judgment about which tradeoffs are acceptable defines the architecture.
