Senior Product Safety Specialist

Most weeks tend to mix complex safety reviews, incident investigations, regulatory engagement, and senior cross-functional consultation — leading safety assessments on high-risk launches, investigating field incidents that may implicate product design, coordinating with CPSC or international regulators, advising senior leadership on safety-related commercial decisions. You're often the senior safety voice when matters carry material commercial or legal exposure. Safety incidents managed and regulatory outcomes are the indirect measures.

The harder part is often the long-tail accountability of recalls and major incidents — senior product-safety decisions can surface years later in litigation or regulator action. Variance across employers is wide: at major consumer brands you have safety teams and outside counsel; at smaller manufacturers you may carry the senior safety role personally.

The role fits people who are technically deep, regulatorily fluent, and steady under product-liability pressure. Engineering plus CSP, ISO safety credentials, and CPSC fluency anchor seniority. The trade-off is the personal exposure of senior product-safety positions and the executive scrutiny that incidents and recalls inevitably attract.
