A typical week often involves complex client sessions, plan implementation, creditor coordination, and junior-staff coaching — sitting with clients in difficult debt situations, building written plans that account for unusual balances and creditor types, working with creditors on enrolled DMP terms, mentoring newer counselors on tough cases. You're often the senior voice on whether DMP, settlement, or bankruptcy fits a particular situation. Plan completion and debt-reduction outcomes are the indirect measures.

Where it gets uncomfortable is the gap between what clients want and what their situation allows — some debt situations genuinely require bankruptcy referrals or settlement, not DMP. Variance across employers is wide: NFCC-affiliated nonprofits run structured DMP operations with educational components; for-profit debt-settlement firms operate under tighter regulatory scrutiny and different ethics.

It fits people who are non-judgmental, technically deep in debt-instrument fluency, and steady through emotionally heavy conversations. The trade-off is the emotional load of work close to genuine financial distress, balanced against the meaning of helping clients climb back.
