A typical week often involves client meetings, manager due diligence, portfolio review, and investment-committee preparation — sitting with investment committees on asset-allocation reviews, conducting manager due diligence visits, preparing performance and risk reports, drafting investment policy statements. You're often the senior investment voice when committees face consequential allocation decisions. Client retention, portfolio performance, and committee satisfaction are the indirect measures.

The harder part is often the multi-generational time horizon of institutional investing — endowments and pensions invest across decades, and short-term performance pressures from boards can pull against long-term discipline. Variance across employers is wide: at major institutional consultants you have research and operational infrastructure; at boutique advisory firms you build personal client relationships over years.
